Campers use rain tarps as a simple shelter to protect their body and gear from the elements, including wind and rain. In outdoor survival settings, camping tarps are a reliable, waterproof, and adaptable piece of equipment for camping. While lightweight tarps are more appropriate for travelers, heavier tarps provide greater weather protection. In addition, search for tarps with several reinforced connection points; four corners should be the minimum, but the more locations you can hook into, the simpler it will be to erect. For camping and backpacking, lightweight tarps and hammocks with additional anchoring points for maximum flexibility are the best choices.
